SL/Countdown
Angela hadn't seen me in awhile.
A means for me to put down whatever rubbish happens to affect me at the time and to comment on today's news, when applicable. (Lately it's become more and more of a Second Life parable, though.)

More and more events, I'm noticing are becoming 'Thanksgiving'-themed the closer we get to the magical date of 22 November. I have mixed feelings
about that date, because although I get to see plenty of Turkeys leading up to it, such as this stately fellow, the fact remains we will be eventually be eaten, no matter what.

Last year, I'm told, most of the turkeys in Second Life got together and tried to escape, symbolically. It's interesting that they were reportedly successful.
For the next week (or so) I'm going to try to find the ringleader of last year's turkey rebellion in case it should happen again. He goes by the name "Pole Tree" I'm told, which is an allusion to "Poultry." "Pole Tree" is said to be such a brilliant escape artist he can literally wait until he's being passed around the table before making his getaway. He launches right off the dinner table, in front of the surprised guests and horrified hostess, turns around and faces them with a big ol' smile on his face--not accusingly--and says: "Happy Thanksgiving," before diving out the window.
He then meets up with all his cohorts near the swamp, and they all press the little red X together, and that's that.

I got bored being an elephant, so I'm once again a turkey. The elephant encountered a lot of problems, especially when he asked to use the couch. As a turkey, I've taken a solemn oath to seek out public bathrooms whenever possible.

Someone arrived in the public sandbox where I staying, so I felt like playing Mr. Roarke.
Turkey: greetings, Aniikan
Aniikan Boyd: greetings
Turkey: behind you, you will find a helicopter
[Anniikan did a slow turn around]
Aniikan Boyd: who are you
Turkey: it is there if you need it
Turkey: i am a turkey
Aniikan Boyd: oh wow
Turkey: careful where you step
[someone else was with us too]
Null Vita: ah and i'm from turkey !

Null Vita: Well, its better to say Türkiye :)
Aniikan Boyd: lol turkey, better watch your back in november.
Turky: i'm all cocky until halloween is over
Null Vita: whats the thing about november :) ?

Sometimes pictures or photos can appear differently at different times. For instance, the below picture may (or may not) reveal that I'm about to be carved up for a pre-Thanksgiving dinner.

At the club, I hovered atop Elle's
dance pole, which resembled an egg (sort of). I threatened to either leave a mess on it, or give birth to it, depending on the crowd's mood. Seriously, it was a fun place to perch and watch the lovely Elle perform, while staying away from humans.
Turkey (Patric): i try not to show humans my legs
Abfab Hax: You got some sexy ass breast meat on ya, Turkey! Bom-chicka -Wah-Wah!!
Turkey: dont compare me with a chicken
Turkey: my breasts are better
Earlier, I had spent time on Abfab's head, which may have been the best nest ever. Certainly the most glamorous. But also short-lived. She loves to dance, so my time there was limited. Then the dance pole became a possibility... How I flew there I'll never know. I landed next to Elle, and got the best seat in the house.
Sexy Elle. Her body was such a pleasure to watch.
Writhing. She is a DJ, so she was writhing and talking at the same time. Incredible.
Then
[18:35] Maxwell Negulesco: WOOT!
and my head nearly hit the ceiling. What a shocker! Turkeys have fragile constitutions, so please watch your WOOTS.
And your Wolf howls.
And WhooHoos!
But wolf howls especially. And woots!
I recovered...barely. Elle brought me back down to earth with her saucy, warm voice.
I thought of Thanksgiving somehow. Elle's voice made me think of a warm, saucy Thanksgiving...
Dear God. I thought of my own predicament. Would I be microwaved? How would Elle react to me when the holidays started? Would she prefer me with gravy?
Then I heard someone at the club call me 'plump'. Plump? Since when does somebody call you 'plump' unless it's a compliment?
Plump?
I was getting nervous. That thing on my neck, the red thing, the thing no one seems to remember what it's called (it's called a wattle by the way). It began to vibrate. Bad.
Badly. Sorry.
It was time to go.

Since I am going to be a turkey for the next few months, I thought it would be fun to record my observations, especially in the days leading up to Thanksgiving.
Since November and December are both associated with turkey, I thought it would be interesting to see if Halloween would acknowledge turkey too.
The next month or two I will be showing up at various harvest or Halloween-type events, attempting to blend in with the local scenery. A turkey should be included even on pagan holidays.

Hippie Island
A turkey wandering the grounds of Hippie Island is a surprising sight. I didn't have any hair, just feathers. I decided to let my feathers grow out. Plumage. Beautiful plumage. One hippie said "GET LOST." I told him my back was against the bonfire. "You don't want fried turkey, do you?" He didn't respond. I felt the warmth of the fire against my back. "I'm already baked!" He didn't say anything, but his mouth did start to water. The hippies are prone to munchies, and a walking-talking turkey wouldn't necessarily turn off a determined hippie, so I waddled out of there as fast as I could. "Learn to trot, learn to trot, dammit" I kept telling myself.
Accessibilty Good
I found a surprisingly high number of walkways and entryways that were turkey-accessible. No problem getting in almost anywhere.
Dance Club
Someone asked how the dance balls worked, and I said in order to dance you had to sit on one, believe it or not. Then I was asked to dance. I declined, saying sitting on a ball would be too much like work, since I was a turkey.

1st Life/2nd Life
Turkey Talk
I logged into Battlefield 1942 for the first time today in a long time. It was a peaceful rendezvous.
The world of Second Life has been occupying my time (obviously). The re-entry into BF42 was a good experience; I loved seeing all the souls who inhabit that world. Nateos is a great server offered up by the mysterious--and generous--Frenchman "Peck." It is a place of a billion laughs.
In the SL world (like the BF42 world) you meet people from around the world. Yesterday, I met with Meri again, the designer of the community tavern I was raving about a few posts ago. She told me she is from Turkey. The woman who produced the most beautiful tavern ever is from a country I know almost nothing about! Talk about irony! Her little flourishes still amaze me...
We talked and laughed and then I did something that may have annoyed her: at the moment she announced she was from Turkey I was chewing on some turkey from the previous night's Christmas dinner. I told her this, and I don't think she thought it was funny. (Sometimes people name things strangely. For instance, the turkey. Why was this named after a country?? For the answer, I turn to Wikipedia.
In the part under "Naming": "When Europeans first encountered these species in the Americas, they incorrectly identified them with the African Helmeted Guineafowl (Numida meleagris), also known as the turkey-cock from its importation to Central Europe through Turkey, and the name of that country stuck as also the name of the American bird." So Turkey played a roundabout role in the mistaken identity of a bird that Americans feast upon during a binary holiday beginning on Thanksgiving and ending on Christmas.
First, the American "Indians" were called an incorrect name, then the food commemorating peace with the "Indians" is mistakenly called "Turkey"?! Ay-yay-yay. Thanksgiving needs a new chapter under "Irony.")
I encourage anyone in SL to check out this marvelous tavern. It is located in Watarrka Park.
